This unique distinct look is absolutely gorgeous.  We seal all the horizontals with a clear natural seal. This includes the deck floor, railcap, bench seats and steps.  Then after the seal has cured we come back and stain all the vertical surfaces to match the house including the railings, face boards, beams, posts, bench pedestals, and risers on the steps.  Now all the vertical sight lines on the house and deck flow.  The deck looks like its part of the house.  Combination stain & seal is also less maintenance.  The stained verticals will last 4-5 years before they need to be re stained again.  We also mix Emulsa Bond into all of our stains. When applied to the wood the EB separates from the stain and penetrates into the wood, acting like a primer sealer.
